BLS Visa Centers in Cyprus Resume Accepting Applications: What Travelers Need to Know

From July 6 the BLS International visa centers in Russia are back in operation, offering Cyprus visa applications in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Krasnodar. Learn about the new conditions, fees and flight routes.

Why this matters for Russian tourists

Cyprus remains one of the few European destinations where Russians don’t need a special visa regime. After a six‑month pause caused by the end of the contract between the embassy and the operator, BLS International visa centers have reopened their windows. That makes the filing process easier: instead of a personal visit to the consulate you can use a broader network of intake points.

Where applications are accepted now

At the moment four offices are operating: the main centre in Moscow and three regional ones in St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Krasnodar. The network used to cover eight cities, including Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Rostov‑on‑Don and Samara, but there are no official statements about their return yet. The current list should be checked on the embassy’s and BLS’s official websites.

How to get a visa: main requirements

  • Age groups – applicants over 12 must submit biometric data (fingerprints and a digital photo). Children 6‑11 pay half the fee, and kids under 6 are processed free of charge.
  • Payment – the consular fee is fixed at €90 for adults and children over 12, €45 for children 6‑11.
  • Documents – applications by power of attorney are not accepted; each applicant must be present in person for the biometric capture.
  • Processing time – under normal conditions the request is handled within 15 calendar days, in practice it often finishes in about 10 working days. In peak season the timeline can stretch to 30‑45 days.

Step‑by‑step filing process

  1. Book online – use the BLS portal to pick a convenient centre and time slot.
  2. Prepare the package – passport, completed form, photo, payment receipt and, if needed, extra papers (for example, an employment certificate).
  3. Show up at the centre – submit your biometrics and receive a receipt.
  4. Wait for completion – within the indicated period you get the visa stamp, which you can collect at the same centre or have delivered by courier if that option is offered.

Getting to Cyprus without direct flights

Since 2022 there are no direct flights from Russia to the island. The most convenient transfer points are:

  • Yerevan (Armenia) – often used by airlines that fly out of Moscow.
  • Tbilisi (Georgia) – a popular transit hub for flights from various Russian regions.
  • Dubai, Abu Dhabi (UAE) – major hubs with frequent connections to Paphos and Larnaca.
  • Astana (Kazakhstan) – another option for travelers who prefer a northern route.

Layovers usually last from a few hours to a full day, depending on the carrier you choose.

Practical tips

  • Stay updated – opening hours and city lists can change, especially ahead of the tourist season.
  • Plan ahead – factor in possible visa‑processing delays in high season and submit your paperwork at least a month before the intended trip.
  • Check document requirements – the consulate sometimes asks for extra certificates (for example, a hotel reservation confirmation), so it’s better to verify the list in advance.
  • Allow extra time for transfers – when you pick a route through a transit city, build in a buffer for possible delays and security checks.
  • Don’t use a power of attorney – only the applicant’s personal appearance guarantees biometric capture and speeds up the process.

What changed after the pause

The biggest change is the reduced geographic coverage: applications are now accepted in four cities instead of eight. Fees and biometric requirements stayed the same, keeping the process predictable. The resumption of BLS operations makes filing more accessible, especially for people living in regions that previously had to travel to the consulate.

Bottom line

For Russians planning a summer or autumn holiday in Cyprus, the reopening of BLS visa centres is a noticeable relief. The procedure has become more flexible, and although the number of intake points has shrunk, the remaining locations still cover the country’s main regions. With proper planning and timely document submission, a trip to the island can go ahead without unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles.
