Moldova lies between Romania and Ukraine, on the rolling land between the Prut and the Dniester. It is known for its wineries: the underground galleries of Cricova and Milestii Mici run for tens of kilometres and rank among the largest wine cellars anywhere. At Orheiul Vechi a monastery is cut into the limestone cliff above the Raut. Chisinau is small, green and walkable.
