Poland sits in the centre of Europe, between the Baltic in the north and the Tatras in the south. Krakow keeps a medieval market square and Wawel Castle, with the Wieliczka salt mine and the Auschwitz memorial nearby. Warsaw was rebuilt after the war, Gdansk is known for its Hanseatic waterfront, Wroclaw for bridges and bronze dwarfs. Zakopane draws skiers in winter.
