New ski resort “Gubakha”: a large‑scale project in the Urals

In the Perm region a modern ski centre “Gubakha” is taking shape – hotel, cottages, a three‑kilometre troll‑jump and summer eco‑trails. The plan is to welcome up to half a million guests each year.

About the project

In the Gubakha district of Perm Krai a major construction effort has kicked off – the overhaul and expansion of the “Gubakha” ski complex. The push comes from the Tourism.RF corporation together with the investor that set up the special design firm “New Gubakha”. Early summer financing was secured by VTB, one of the country’s biggest banks.

Future resort infrastructure

Accommodation

  • A three‑star hotel with just over a hundred rooms.
  • Eight two‑storey barn‑style cottages, together providing space for sixteen guests.

Ski and leisure complex

  • A modern chair‑lift with four‑seat fixed chairs – the first of its kind in Perm Krai.
  • A snow park and a freeride zone catering to beginners as well as advanced skiers.
  • A rescue centre and a rental shop.
  • A spa area for unwinding after a day on the slopes.

Special projects

  • The plan includes Russia’s longest “trolley‑track” – almost three kilometres of sliding path that will become an attraction in its own right.
  • The eastern slope will see its ski area expanded, and in summer an ecological trail will open for hikers and cyclists.

Current resort facilities

Even now “Gubakha” operates year‑round. On Mount Krestovoy there are eighteen runs totaling about twenty kilometres, with a vertical drop of three hundred ten metres. The trails range from easy green runs to black runs that demand solid technique. At the summit stands a forty‑metre observation tower offering panoramic views over the Urals.

The ski season runs from November to April, allowing a winter break without long waits. The main clientele are residents of Perm Krai, plus tourists from neighbouring regions: Sverdlovsk, Udmurt, Tyumen, Chelyabinsk, Kirov, Samara and Tatarstan.

Development plans and scale

When construction is finished the resort is designed to accommodate up to four hundred and fifty thousand visitors annually. That means not only more overnight capacity but also expanded services: new runs, a more powerful lift system and additional leisure zones.

By 2026 the road linking “Gubakha” to the region’s main highway should be completed. Today the drive from Perm takes three to four hours; the upgraded route will cut travel time, making the resort easier to reach for people from nearby areas.

How to get there

The simplest option is by car. The road from Perm passes through a handful of small settlements, and its 2026 upgrade is expected to smooth traffic. For those who prefer public transport, there are trains to the nearest railway hub, where you can catch a minibus or a taxi.

Who might be interested

  • Fans of active winter sport – the mix of runs and a snow park offers something for every skill level.
  • Families with children – the hotel, cottages and spa make a comfortable, safe stay.
  • Travelers looking for an alternative to the crowded resorts of Sochi and Krasnaya Polyana – “Gubakha” provides a quieter atmosphere and fresh mountain air.

If you’re planning a winter break in Russia, give this project a look. It blends an already proven base with ambitious expansion plans, promising a comfortable and varied getaway in the heart of the Urals.
